COX'S ENHANCED VPN PRODUCT NOW AVAILABLE IN 17 MARKETS
Software-based VPN makes life easier for teleworking employees
ATLANTA – Cox Business, a commercial affiliate
of Cox Communications, is now offering its enhanced Cox Virtual
Private Network (VPN) product in 17 markets. With even more portability,
the product allows teleworking employees in markets such as Phoenix,
Ariz., New Orleans, La. and Virginia Beach, Va., to access corporate
intranets, network systems and share files regardless of their
location.
Cox's software-based VPN approach eliminates the hardware requirements
and truck rolls previously associated with single user environments.
This reduces monthly costs for customers and wait-time for workers
wishing to work from home or on the road.
At their convenience, teleworkers in these markets simply go to
a secure Cox Internet site, and download and install the VPN software
on their PC’s or laptop computers. They can then access
the VPN from their dial-up, cable modem or DSL connection. Previously,
teleworkers had to be located in a Cox franchised area to access
Cox Virtual Private Network services.
"Our enhanced VPN product creates a win-win situation for
our business customers in these expanded market areas,”
said Bob Hattori, VP, Operations for Cox Business. “They
are able to eliminate hardware requirements, while expanding the
range and capabilities of their mobile workforce through portability."
About Cox Virtual Private Network
Cox's VPN establishes a remote teleworker connection delivered
over Cox's hybrid fiber coaxial (HFC) network. Corporate and satellite
offices in the Cox managed VPN are served on either the company's
fiber based network or HFC. Remote workers have an "always
on" broadband connection, with speeds up to 3.0 Mbps downstream
and 384 Kbps upstream and can access their company's network and
files just as though they were in the office - all without dial-up
delays. Cox's solution is IP based, easy-to-use and cost-effective.
Cox's VPN is also easily scalable, supporting up to 1000 tunnels
and 200 Mbps of throughput.
Utilizing client-based remote access VPN security technology from
industry-leading NetScreen Technologies, Inc., Cox’s remote
access VPN product offering is secure and protects customers'
data with robust commercial encryption and authentication technology.
